The legendary Roots Crew! Shit's hot no matter how you slice it, and with several guest appearances that shit got hotter. Black Thought even said the people upstairs should throw some ice cubes down to cool things off. Ha! Shit's HOT!
Sometimes they got slow, sometimes they got fast, sometimes they jammed to five different songs within five minutes. They had that Roots blend of hip-hop, jazz, funk, soul, rock and since they were in D.C., a little go-go. They started out with "How I Got Over" from their new album, and I remember "Here I Come" with Dice Raw's first appearance, "I Got You" with a local artist singing Erykah Badu's chorus, "Game Theory", "Break You Off", "Sacrifice", "Take It There", "Thought @ Work", and other hits.
Guitarist/singer "Captain" Kirk Douglas pelted out a suite of "Sweet Child O' Mine," "Mannish Boy," "Who Do You Love" and "Immigrant Song," among others. Later they came back with "The Seed 2.0" for the encore. I just wish Wale showed up for our show instead of the night before... and that we didn't miss the last metro train back.
